EBRD NATIONWIDE SURVEY
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)/ the World Bank are implementing a survey of
approximately 29,000 individuals in 29 countries in Central Eastern Europe, the Commonwealth of
Independent States (CIS), Mongolia and Turkey. "SIAR-Bishkek" was entitled to conduct this survey in the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Mongolia.
The purpose of the EBRD/World Bank Life in Transition Survey is to assess the impact of the
major changes in your country of the past 15 years or so on people, and to understand how people’s
experiences during this transition period have helped to shape their attitude to market reforms and
political evolution. The results will provide an important guide to future EBRD and World Bank
activities across the region, as they will help us, first, to understand more clearly the constraints that
policy-makers face in implementing reforms, and second, to identify groups for which transition has
been a failure and where a more targeted approach to lending and investments might be warranted.
